Jubilee Window
Another back-to-front painting on the bay window, this time to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. The splendid design is just copied off an old Oxo tin from the 1953 Coronation (which we've put in the window too) that I saw at our friends' house a couple of years ago, and thought I'd like to do something with one day.

Southwold murals old and new.
In 2003 Tim painted a 8' x 12' mural on the end wall of the house adjacent to our friends' place in Southwold. Building work and damp problems over the years resulted in rerendering the wall and the mural disappeared. A new one was commissioned (this time on an interior wall) and is currently a work in progress.
The first mural was painted with masonry paint tinted with tester pots, and was inspired by the look of old railway posters. The new one is based on a pen and watercolour sketch of a similar view of Blackshore, with Southwold beyond, from the Walberswick side of the River Blyth. It's blown up to about seven feet wide and is painted in acrylics, trying to keep the spontaneous look of the original. Take a look at the March 2012 blogs to see another mural painted using the same method.
The pictures below show the old outside mural soon after it was painted, then the watercolour sketch the new one is based on, and finally the new one - so far, just painted lines.

New commissions: Lady Daphne and Across to Old Hall:
Here are a couple of recent local landscape commissions.
Lady Daphne off Tollesbury shows the famous Thames barge sailing up Tollesbury Fleet to The Ship Ahoy, which (in an alternative reality) is still a busy pub out on the marsh and Across to Old Hall: High Water shows the view across the flooded field at a very high tide.

Watercolour landscapes/ hand-made paper
These are of couple of Julie's paper cut-outs turned back into watercolours, but still keeping the crisp edges and bright colours that using cut paper allows. They're painted on some of Charles Bran's hand-made paper, which he makes from all manner of plants and leaves - honeysuckle, bramble, seaweed and more. Take a look at his interesting website, papermakingfromplants.co.uk
Tollesbury: high water
The current new painting in the studio window shows the view at high tide, on a strangely warm January day, from the old sea wall, looking towards the lightship, boatyards and sail lofts.
