Etta James window

We had a memorial to the great Etta James in our window for a couple of weeks, after she passed away in January. It's just a simple line drawing - like the linear portraits - in acrylics on the inside of the glass.
The photo on the left is from the outside looking in to the studio, while the grainy one on the right is from the inside looking out, as the winter sun is setting.

Pen and watercolour mural

This photo shows the end wall of our studio with a new mural idea. It's taken from a sketch of the view from the breached sea wall over the saltmarsh to Old Hall Farm.  Originally A6, it's been blown up to 60" x 40" and painted as accurately as possible directly onto the wall in acrylics, so it still looks like pen and watercolour.
Take a look on the 'Paintings for Sale' page too for another couple of sketchbook pages blown up and painted onto other surfaces.

Christmas Window

Here's a picture of our window over Christmas 2011 - a version of Caravaggio's splendid Adoration of the Shepherds. This one's painted back-to-front in acrylics on the inside of the glass.

Commissions and Rachel

A couple of recent commissions, both oils on canvas. Big Cloud II is 24" x 24" and is a view looking over Tollesbury Fleet towards West Mersea, while From Old Hall is 24" x 12" and shows the marshes and creeks at low tide with the Tollesbury skyline in the distance.
Both of these works came about as a result of customers seeing Big Cloud/Small Boy (look on the 'Landscapes' page) but wanting smaller paintings and, in the case of From Old Hall, a painting where the colours of the mud and marsh were more important than a dramatic sky.

The portrait is of our friend Rachel, and is sort of inspired by Goya's Dona Isabel de Porcel ( in the National Gallery). This one is acrylic and measures up at 36" x 24".

Two new paintings

A couple of new paintings from Saunders & Co.
First, a copy of a copy. A present for our daughter -Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring signed by Camilla Fritton, Headmistress of St. Trinian's. This is oil on canvas and, at 18" x 12", a little smaller than the original - and the original copy !

Second, our well-used glass jug - freesias, irises and now lysianthus. This is 30" x 18", is also painted in oils on canvas and is for sale, framed, at £750.

One of the bay windows with 24 panes in our studio seemed like a good place for an advent calendar. We painted 1 -24 on the inside of the glass, then rubbed off a number every day and painted (mainly) wintery or festive pictures in its place. Here are two pictures of the window - halfway through the month and then on Christmas Eve.
